In the source for this question, Heather et al. (2017) raise the question of the relative importance of environment, as opposed to the biological diathesis, in the development and maintenance of so-called “addiction.” This is a controversial perspective and therefore provides an opportunity for critical thinking and reflection. Compare and contrast the position presented by Heather et al. (2017) with the position of our textbook’s authors, and with you own views, prior to reading this article. Did your views change in any way? If so, what contributed to your thinking? How might one’s view of addiction impact social perceptions of clients?
