To some degree, we’re all technological elites. We exist in a world surrounded by hi-tech tools. Some we understand, others not so much, and still others we might not know exist. Collins & Pinch and this class ask us to consider the human component to technology and science. After all, technology is a human endeavor, so it adheres to human systems: institutions, behaviors, cultures, etc.

Where do you place blame when it comes to problems with technology? Another way to think about this is to reflect upon what you would consider is the best approach to improving technology. Do you think technologists should work harder to have technologies conform to human behaviors and practices, or do you think users—humans—need to learn more about technology in order to better handle these new tools?

There’s no right or wrong answer to this question, but reflect deeply on this topic. Don’t feel bad if you find out you are a technological elitist.
