Nadia responseThroughout my years at university, I was a part of the Fairfield dance team. I worked my way up from a dancer to a captain and then president of the entire club. As president of the club, I was tasked with planning our fall and spring showcases. In order to create the perfect dance show, we began planning choreography from the summer/ semester before. I always began the summer by thinking of what theme and ambiance I wanted to show the audience. When I finally created a vision in my head, I began to choose music that would fit the theme and choreograph. Next came the attention to detail with the timing of the music, the right dancers for each section, and the perfect way to get the message across. This is only phase one of the planning stages. Next, I would have to think about the logistics of the showcase, from booking the venue to purchasing the costumes. I had to schedule extra practice days, study halls, and team bonding all leading up to creating a great show. I also had to choose the right host to keep the crowd on their feet, while finding other dance teams to perform as well. However, the showcase planning doesn’t end once the show comes, it continues the very next day for the next semester.

Shaniqua responseTo improve quality and efficiency at the nail spa, we had to figure out bookkeeping and working with new technicians with product knowledge and training. Working at the spa is fast-paced, therefore, being on time is important, and making sure that the books are organized. Unfortunately, many times we failed to properly manage the schedule if a client showed up late or if the technician was having some trouble during service. Many times, we looked at client feedback to make improvements to our service and products. “For example, a project might be looking at ways to change the product in response to market feedback, or it might be looking at ways to change the process to improve efficiency or quality” (Jacobs, F. R., & Chase, R. B., 2020). To fix the problem, we analyzed each technician’s strengths, weaknesses, and qualifications. On the online bookkeeping service, we made sure to include the services that each technician was able to perform to avoid errors during the service. Not all technicians were trained in nail extensions, gel polish, or skincare. Just by changing the online booking system, it made the schedule easier to manage with fewer problems.Reference

Kwantarius responseService and manufacturing organization are both required to evaluate capacity. Where service may refer to how many customers an organization can see in a certain amount of time. And manufacturing capacity may refer to the amount of products that can be produced in a given time frame. Resource inputs and resource outputs are key components that operations managers take into consideration when evaluating capacity for an organization. Simply because the capacity is dependent upon what is actually produced. In this case of hospital capacity, there differences in how capacity would be considered for a factory. Hospital’s capacity is based on the amount of beds available to see/ treat patients. The capacity of the hospital can also be dependent on patient needs. Hospital capacity is often expressed as inputs. With the number of patients, services and beds being the variables, capacity can be evaluated.
Whereas a factory’s capacity differs from a hospital because it is determined by output. Factories have a common goal across the board and that is usually to manufacture and produce a certain amount of products in a given time frame. The capacity is a measure of how much a factory can churn out to be distributed by suppliers.
This evaluation illustrates the differences in capacity between organizations belonging to the service and manufacturing industries. The example given demonstrate the importance of input and output when considering hospitals and factories in this regard.
