Jonathan Edwards’ “Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God”

For this assignment, you will “surf” the internet to find something related to a writer in American literature covering from pre-colonial to the American Civil War (please select from only one of the authors in the syllabus). Some examples include earlier colonial works such as Jonathan Edwards’ “Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God”.
There are three key components to this essay—
1.) Provide background/biography on the writer.-In examining the background/biography of the writer consider how his/her personal life affected what he/she wrote about.For example, in Anne Bradstreet’s work, many of her poems were directly related to the family struggles and tragedies she dealt with – such as the loss of a family member.2.) Find a web-based image, commentary, self-authored work, or parody of the writer.
Below are some examples; note – you are not limited to the ones mentioned below—
a.) A visual image related to a topic or idea discussed in class—
e.g. a drawing/depiction of Edwards’ “Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God” speech
b.) An article/critique/commentary on the internet about a specific author–
e.g. An article from a 19th-century newspaper criticizing the sexual imagery in Whitman’s “A Woman Waits for Me.”
c.) Self-authored article by the writer him/herself—
e.g. An article by Henry David Thoreau on his views of slavery.
d.) A parody of an author’s work—
e.g. A cartoon or funny take on Emily Dickinson’s poem “Because I Could Not Stop for Death.”
3.) You must attach a copy of the internet source – either through a downloaded image or link to the website, so I may examine this in conjunction with the written portion of the assignment.
Below is a general essay format you should roughly follow. Note – the following is for a standard five-paragraph essay; your essay will probably be more than 5 paragraphs:

2.) 1st body paragraphA.) Expand on the background/biography of the writerExplain how his/her personal life affected his/her worke.g. Dickinson’s life of solitude and questioning of religious standards/practices of her day influenced much of her poetry.
3.) 2nd body paragraphA.) Explain why you chose this particular piece from this internet (web-based image, commentary, self-authored work, or parody)e.g. You like the humor in the parody of Dickinson’s poem.
4.) 3rd body paragraphA.) Explain what relationship this piece has to American literature.B.) ConclusionC.) Restate thesisD.) Reiterate body points
