Like any chosen means of delivering content to students, there are justifications that support a given method of delivery and those that do not. Distance learning is no exception. The obvious statement is that a course should never be offered online just because it is possible to do so or because the technology exists. DE is not for everyone (nor is classroom learning). However, multiple studies show that DE (done right) is at least as effective as traditional (face-to-face) instruction.18 An educator can make inferences both in favor of or against DE. Educators should keep in mind that it is possible to put together a poor classroom experience, too (NAEMSE). Type a 2-page essay that discusses the pros, cons, and barriers to distance education in EMS. Make sure you find, use, and cite scholarly sources. A textbook is not considered a scholarly source. Cite your work. Do not use Wikipedia as a reference.
