This week, we will continue to examine the Common School as we learn how formalized organization of the modern school movement found grounding. As we continue to think about this time period, we will also be looking into what schooling became into the 1900s which takes us into the Progressive Era and beyond. What do you know about this time period? What was daily life like during this time? What were schools like during this time? Who were included and excluded? What were the social location and social experiences like for your family members during this time?As you read and watch the films for this module, think about and describe what was occurring with urbanization, the rural experience, immigration, Taylorization/Taylorism, industrialization, and segregation. What impact did this time have on modern schooling?
