You will take on the role of a technology specialist in your school. Imagine your school was adopting a new LMS in the upcoming school year. You have been asked, as the technology specialist, to advise the school board by choosing an LMS you believe would work well for your school. You can choose any LMS, including the one that is currently adopted by your school, but you might also consider Moodle, Schoology, Canvas, and Edmodo.Assignment Based on your work in this unit, select one LMS you feel best meets the needs of your school. Using the SWOT Analysis Template (given in the resources), analyze the various components of the LMS. Remember that a SWOT analysis is used to assess both internal features and external features. Then, use the template to create the presentation evaluating the LMS.After completing your SWOT analysis, design a presentation to the school board. In your presentation, you must:Describe your school as it pertains to the process of LMS selection.What is your student population like? What other technologies does your school utilize? What are community and parent expectations regarding technology?What needs exist within the school that the LMS should address?Summarize the relevant features of the LMS you selected. When determining which features to highlight, consider the needs of various stakeholders—teachers, students, administrators, and parents. Also, highlight features that are unique to the LMS you chose.Evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of the LMS based on the internal school environment. Be sure your evaluation is based on the needs of your school and classroom. When evaluating the strengths and weaknesses, your focus should be internal. Use these aspects of the LMS to begin your evaluation:Instructional tools and features. What capabilities does the LMS have to design various content and accept and embed technologies?Student engagement, collaboration, and creation.Ease of use. For example, navigation, number of clicks, intuitiveness, et cetera.Terms of service.Evaluate the LMS’s opportunities and threats based on the external factors and stakeholders. Be sure your evaluation is based on the needs of your school and classroom. Use the following aspects of the LMS to begin your evaluation:Parent needs and concerns.Student privacy and protection.Outside of school access.Turn your focus to teaching and learning, after completing the evaluation. Explain how the LMS will meet a variety of student needs within your school. Provide examples of how the LMS will improve the learning of diverse students within your school.Your presentation can be designed using any presentation technology though you may consider tools such as Prezi or PowerPoint. Remember that your audience is the school board, so your slides should be professional and should contain appropriate level language and facts. Include any sources or additional information in the notes section of your presentation.Record this presentation using Kaltura or other screencasting tools with which you may be familiar.
