Write a paper about how choice overload (Iyegar & Lepper, 2000) can affect cybersecurity in an organization.
The final product doesn’t need to be a finished paper, but must be an advanced draft and include an Introduction, Literature Review, 2-3 Hypotheses, and a Methods section (Maybe an experiment involving people interacting with some sort of computer task that can test the hypotheses? I’m open to ideas here, but needs to be something possible to do using online resources like MTurk or similar.)I will use the materials you provide to put together the final paper.
The idea is that behavioral economics is based on the evidence of systematic deviations of the economic actors’ behavior from rationality. Research in behavioral economics shows cognitive biases can impact the decision-making process. A study conducted at Columbia University (Iyengar & Lepper, 2000) indicates that a large array of product options attracted customers to browse, but fewer choices got them to buy. Similar research shows that when presented with a large array of options, customers tend to defer decisions, search for new alternatives, choose the default option or even opt not to choose (Dhar, 1997; Shafir, Simonson, & Tversky, 1993; Shafir & Tversky, 1992).
The research question is “Can choice overload affect information security in organizations?”
The Literature review should address these areas: cognitive biases in decision making with an accent on choice overload, information security in organizations.
I attached some references, but more are needed.
If your work on this is good I will be happy to continue to have your help for this and other projects.
